If you ever feel like you’ve lost your melon, then take a trip out to Chinchilla… where they’re never short of a melon, or two! That’s right, Chinchilla is officially known as the Melon Capital of Australia!
Chinchilla once produced a whole quarter of Australia’s supply of watermelons, rockmelons and honeydew melons, so you can understand why they’re proud of that. In fact, they hold a melon festival every second year! Still, there’s more to Chinchilla than melons…
Only 81km west from Dalby on the Warrego Highway, Chinchilla is a popular tourist location. It’s an ideal location for camping, bushwalking, fishing and simply escaping to the great outdoors. Chinchilla is also home to the stunning and extensive Chinchilla Historical Museum and the Chinchilla Weir (which is perfect for a spot of fishing).
